I Don't Believe in God...I Know God

Do you believe in God? Or do you know God?

What's the difference? Well, a big one to me. See...I hate that phrase: "I believe"

When I hear "believe" it makes me think of Santa Claus or the tooth fairy or magic. I believe….like you have a choice. Like..it is real or maybe not.

And I think a lot of people believe in God. Sure...why not. There's a God. If we all clap our hands we can make him real!

Or it's handy...yeah I believe. Let me check that box on the survey. You just agree that He's up there somewhere but don't really give it much thought.

Mom told me about Him so yeah...sure.

But believing in Him doesn't change they way you live. Believing in Him makes no difference in your life. Believing in him is the easy part.

And I'm sorry if any of this sounds like you. But I want more for you.

See, I don't believe in God. I know God. I know who He is. I know what He says. I know what He promises. I know Him. It's not a choice. It's a fact. I know there is a God. I know the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. I know water is wet. I know 1+1=2. And I know God.

And I know Him because I've experienced Him. He has been with me my whole life...good, bad, and the ugly. I can feel His presence like I can feel the hot sand on my feet at the beach and the touch of my child's hand against mine. I can hear His voice like I can hear the thunder in a storm or the buzz of a bee flying by. And I've been changed by Him. I've been completely and utterly transformed by Him. And I am incredibly thankful.

See, when you know God, when you accept Him and His authority in your life and your dependence on Him, you become a new person. The old you, the old way you lived and did things, is gone. It simply cannot exist. There is no room for your old life. Instead, you become full of the love of God, full of the Holy Spirit, and full of His light. The way you think and the way you act is different. You are no longer living for yourself, but for others. You have the chance to share God's light with others. You get to fulfill the life God has for you and truly life out your purpose.

That's the difference. So...do you know Him or just believe?

And if you just believe, that's ok because it gives you an opportunity to meet Him for real. To get to know Him. To dig deep into His word and to talk and listen until you hear His voice too. It gives you a chance to feel his presence for the first time and I promise you, you will be forever changed. All you have to do is open the door because He is knocking and waiting for a chance to say hello.

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends."

Revelation 3:20
